WiiWare Turns One

Nintendo's WiiWare download service has just reached its first anniversary, and to celebrate, they've released the following video, which looks back at many of the great releases the service has seen. Some favorites named include Mega Man 9, World of Goo, Tetris Party, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Dr. Marioâ„¢ Online Rx, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, BIT.TRIP BEAT, LIT, and LostWinds. Looking ahead, they anticipate big things for Cave Story, Icarian Kindred Spirits, Super Meat Boy, BIT.TRIP CORE, and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. What, no Contra ReBirth? How disappointing. There are still some of these I need to get, though. In the meantime, Happy Anniversary, WiiWare! Keep the good stuff coming! You can find Nintendo's full press release after the cut. Read More

Nintendo Announces Small Line-up of DSiWare and WiiWare Games

VG247 recently wrote an article with a list of games that will be coming out from now until July for Nintendo's WiiWare and DSiWare services. Squibs Arcade, Cave Story, and Swords & Soldiers are on the list for July WiiWare titles, and around half of the DSiWare titles are already available. I should also mention that most of these games could cost a mere 200 points. How could you go wrong for that price? For a full breakdown of what is available now and what to get excited for, hit the break. Read More

Wii-kly Update - 3/30/09: "The Farewell Edition"

Just as we had hoped, following this bit of news, Super Punch-Out!! has come to the Virtual Console. And, might I add, it's about time, too; I expected it at least a week ago. What's more, it seems Nintendo has answered something that's bothered me for a little while now. See, I was unaware of whether or not the protagonist of Super Punch-Out!! had a proper name or not, and he certainly does not look a thing like the Little Mac I grew up with, and who appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the upcoming Wii Punch-Out!! But according to Nintendo's press release, it's really him. So that's one mystery solved. Bar patrons, collect your bets. The other title this week is a WiiWare piece called "Bonzai Barber," and these two titles mark the close of the Wii-kly Update from Nintendo. Since the DSi launches next week and will have its own software for download, the update will be changed to the less-punny "Nintendo Download." Let us all shed a tear and pour a beer for this once hallowed institution of about two years. Read More
