New Guilty Gear Planned for PS3, 360

Arc System Works' Guilty Gear franchise has become one of the most critically-acclaimed fighting series in the business today. The company tried something new this year with the release of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for the 360 and PS3, but is now set to bring the Guilty Gear franchise back to consoles, according to an interview with NowGamer. According to Daisuke Ishiwatari, a producer at Arc System Works, a new Guilty Gear is fully intended to be created for the PS3 and 360. Ishiwatari also confirmed that a crossover between BlazBlue and Guilty Gear could hapepen as well. Great. Let's just hope this is a legit 2D fighter, and not another 3D waste of time like Guilty Gear 2: Overture. Read More

GameStop's Black Friday Video Game Deals Revealed

The dreaded date of Black Friday on November 27th, 2009 draws ever closer. And while Kmart's gamer deals did little to excite, perhaps GameStop's offerings will do a little more for you. So if you decide to venture forth out into the November cold at 6am for the named-in-poor-taste "Doorbuster" deals that run until 11am, or just any of the other deals which run all week, here is what you can expect. PSN Thursday – 8.20.09: Smash Cars, Bloody Roar, and Dick

Personally, I find this week's PlayStation Network update a bit underwhelming. Especially when you consider Wednesday's Xbox Live update included Shadow Complex and a Lost Planet 2 demo. The full version of Smash Cars will be available to download for 15 bucks. Also, Sony continues the trend of steadily releasing PSone games every week. This time we are getting the original Bloody Roar. To be perfectly honest, I had never heard of Bloody Roar until I read today's press release. From what I can tell, it's a pretty standard fighting game that provides you with the ability to turn in to animals…or something. You can check that one out for the usual 10 bucks. In what may be the oddest release of week, new DLC for PAIN will feature Andy Dick as a add-on character. Umm, huh? From the looks of things, Andy Dick's career is past its prime and he's looking for some attention. Oh well. Continue Reading for the sacred Sony text. Read More

Why is the PlayStation 3 Version of BlazBlue Outselling Xbox 360's?

When a game is released across both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, it's usually the Xbox 360 version which seems to come out ahead, at least where sales are concerned. However, that does not appear to be the case for Aksys' 2D Weapon-Fighting game, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, whose PlayStation 3 version is selling out more quickly than that of the Xbox 360 version. Several theories could support this turn, from the superior PlayStation D-pad to the unique implementation of Sony's vaunted but rarely-used Remote Play feature with the PlayStation Portable, to even the lack of region locking that the 360 version has, making the PS3 version more appealing to European importers. But according to Aksys themselves, there is actually another reason: its popularity with Japanese gamers. "Aksys' Harry Chang explained that many hardcore players want to play against Japanese players," Joystiq reports, "and people know that the 'Japanese players are mostly on PS3.' Those that are seeking competition from Japan's best players know which version to choose." "No wonder PS3 is Capcom's 'platform of choice' at the EVO Championship Series," they add. Read More
