Vic Ireland Working Towards Classic Controller Support for Blaster Master: Overdrive

Much to the delight of fans of oldschool video gaming, Blaster Master: Overdrive was released to WiiWare earlier this week. Unfortunately, however, while the game itself seems to have been rather well-received, those who have played it have found some slight issues with the controls. More specifically, the game does not support the Classic Controller, thus necessitating the use of the Wii Remote in "NES style." On the NeoGAF, Victor Ireland noted "That was mentioned during development. At one point it was Wii+Nunchuck. When it went to Wiimote, I mentioned classic controller support being needed." Read More

Nintendo Download - 2/8/10: Deadly Viruses and Heroic Vegetables Make for a Memorable Week

I don't think anyone saw this one coming. On today's Nintendo Download, Sunsoft has released Blaster Master: Overdrive, which Sunsoft's Victor Ireland describes as being "halfway between" a remake and a sequel to the original; "more like a re-imagining." Check out the official trailer: "It's based on the original US storyline," he explains, "but some things are changed. For example, the hero (Alexander/Alex) in this one is an adult trying to save his family...AND MANKIND. :) Mix of old and new mutants, mix of similar and new bosses, somewhat different ending." This looks like just what the doctor ordered, and it's going for 1,000 Wii Points. That's not all that's available now, though; check out the Nintendo Download press release after the cut, and beneath that, the full Blaster Master: Overdrive presser. Read More

Nintendo Download - 1/4/10: A New Decade Brings Seven New Downloadable Nintendo Games

Following the likes of Super Mario Kart, Blaster Master, Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth, Super Smash Bros., and Pilotwings, one could easily forgive Nintendo if they didn't bring anything noteworthy in this week's Nintendo Download. And while there is nothing quite on the level of the aforementioned, a new Final Fight game isn't anything to sneeze at, either. In addition to FF3, Nintendo has a new action-puzzle DSiWare game in the form of Trajectile, for just 500 points, and those who love the antics of chef Gordon Ramsay may appreciate that there is a special version of Hell's Kitchen available today for 800. Three more titles across DSi and WiiWare help round things out. Check out full details on each game in the press release after the cut. Read More

Final Fantasy XIII Trophy List Confirmed

March 9th can't come soon enough. As details continue to emerge from behind the walls of Square-Enix, my excitement for this game continues to build. The latest piece of news on Final Fantasy XIII regards trophy support for the game. While nothing has been mentioned about achievements for the 360 version, you can bet that they'll be modeled after the PlayStation 3's trophies. Hit the cut to see the current list. Read More

Nintendo Download - 12/14/09 - 11 New Downloads Blast Their Way to Nintendo Systems

It's kind of funny the turnaround the Virtual Console has had this year. It started off a bit slow, with a rumor even emerging after a few no-shows that Nintendo would be discontinuing the service. But now, we're getting some pretty good stuff. Case in point, today's two offerings. Not only are we getting Blaster Master for the NES, which for many people could have carried the day on its own, but another underground hero emerges in Earthworm Jim 2 for the SEGA Genesis. And of course, there are plenty of other more contemporary releases on WiiWare and DSiWare alike. You can find all the details in the press release after the cut. Read More

Cave Story on WiiWare in 2009?

People expected Cave Story to be released on WiiWare by now, but it has instead been besieged by delays, leaving fans to wonder if the game would even arrive this year at all. Back in September, developer Nicalis said the game was approaching its final submission with Nintendo, but we've heard little since. But now, in addition to breaking the news of Mega Man 10, it appears that the preview for the newest Nintendo Power may be letting us in on when to expect the game. Read More
