More Retired Wii Games from Nintendo

Yesterday, we brought you the news that Nintendo of America was no longer shipping Metroid Prime Trilogy, a title which had only been released at the end of August 2009. As it turns out, the list of titles Nintendo is no longer shipping runs quite a bit deeper than that. Read More

Nintendo Reveals First- and Third-Party Holiday Lineup

Nintendo has released the planned publishing schedule as it stands for the Wii and Nintendo DS/DSi, from both themselves and their third-parties. A lot of definite dates are not set in, instead referenced as "Fall," "Holiday," or "November," for example, but nonetheless serves to give us an idea of what the coming months will bring. "This extensive lineup will keep players busy throughout the fall and into 2010," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Shoppers know that Nintendo offers fun for everyone in the household." Nintendo also mentions the upcoming black Wii Remote, Nunchuk, and MotionPlus as being available "this holiday season," though they don't get any more specific than that. Hit the jump for the full press release and list of games that will become available. Read More

DS Software Hits 100 Million in Japan

Yesterday we found out that the Sims franchise had finally sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and that was quite the accomplishment on the software front. Now, who would have thought that we would be sharing you news about another 100 million software seller today. No, this isn't a single franchise; instead this is the total amount of software the DS has sold in Japan. In a little over 3 years, the DS has sold over 100 million pieces of software in Japan alone. This shouldn't surprise anyone seeing as though the DS is more popular than anime in Japan. Since launch, the DS has seen over 900 titles released with 21 crossing the million seller plateau. No surprise here, New Super Mario Bros. is the best selling DS game in Japan with 5,174,163 copies sold. Not too bad for a 2D side-scroller. Following closely behind are Brain Age 2 (4,835,159), Animal Crossing DS (4,693,662), Brain Age (3,771,440), Mario Kart DS (3,042,753), Pokemon Diamond (3,005,505), Pokemon Pearl (2,490,564), English Training DS (2,216,322), Mario Party DS (1,706,506), and Big Brain Academy (1,654,285). If the DS is at 100 million software pieces in Japan, I can only imagine what the worldwide figures must look like. Read More
