Torchlight; Beyond Good and Evil HD coming this spring to XBLA

If there are two things I love, it's some Torchlight and Beyond Good and Evil. Two really great franchises that have only seen one game apiece! Thankfully, both Torchlight 2 and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are well underway. Almost as awesome is this little bit of news from Microsoft at CES: in February, Microsoft will have House Party, an event that will see the release of five titles, including Hard Corps Rising, Bejeweled Blitz, Full House Poker, and...wait for it...Torchlight and Beyond Good and Evil HD. In case you didn't pick up on it, this is for the Xbox 360. That's right, Torchlight on the console! Eurogamer is reporting that the game is taking a direct control approach, and that item management and potions are done by the computer. Accordingly, it looks a little different, but should offer some of that addictive loot collecting gameplay. Beyond Good and Evil HD, on the other hand, is a round two for the franchise. After abysmal sales, the series was thought long gone. Instead, Ubisoft announced in 2008 the sequel to the franchise, and late last year showed off the HD version of the original. Having played it, I can say it's a lovely looking game, and with all of the new visual enhancements, it stands up pretty well. All in all, I'm pretty excited about this, and if those other titles (like Hard Corps Uprising, a true Contra game) can stand up, we should have some great games to play this winter on XBLA. Most Popcap Titles 50 percent Off

I still remember when Popcap came onto the scene ten years ago. With titles like Bejeweled, Zuma and Chuzzle, they didn't exactly appeal to my tastes (at the time), but they sure as hell got my aunts and mom to game. It was weird, and that fact alone made Popcap a developer that not only represented boring casual games, they represented the enemy. Of course, 20/20 hindsight, I was an idiot. Not only were those titles great, I was letting my snotty gamer arrogance shine through. Both Bejewled and Zuma are great (still don't like you Chuzzle!), and gems like Plants vs Zombies and Peggle only make Popcap that much more respectable. Anyway, they've been around for ten solid years, and in celebration of this event, Popcap is dropping the price of most of their downloadable PC and Mac titles by fifty percent. Now, it's a little late on their part for the holiday season, but it's perfect way to end out the year. Unfortunately, this does not apply to bundles or Bejeweled 3, but considering the other titles, that's not bad. Remember, these deals will be gone on January 2, so sooner rather than later is for the best. Read More
