Kombo\'s Weekly News Round-Up

We had a huge week of exclusives here at Kombo, and on top of that, tons of news.  Leading our foray of weekly news and features was a double-whammy as we had an opportunity to play both Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops.   Our own Mike Rougeau was able to go to San Francisco for a two-day event where he was able to play through the entire single-player campaign of Halo: Reach and he was able to play an entire day's worth of multiplayer.    In addition, the famous Jeff Grubb was able to get his hands on the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops for the first time. Get the previews and news after the break. Read More

A World of Keflings PAX Trailer Looks Promising

I WILL IMPALE YOU ON MY GIANT HOOP EARRING! If you're anything like me, you've been doing your best for the last couple years to ignore the casual Xbox Live Arcade push championed by Microsoft's me-too Avatars. But when something like the new trailer for NinjaBee's upcoming A World of Keflings lands in the Kombo inbox, I almost start to think that I may have missed some interesting games. Hit the jump for the trailer. Read More

Deals, Deals, Everywhere You Look

Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has been passing along several deals Amazon.com has been holding for Xbox 360 products today via his Twitter, and we've rounded some of these up to pass along to you. The biggest savings seem to be on Guitar Hero: World Tour. You can get the Guitar Kit bundle for just $29.84, 57 percent off the $69.99 regular price and it qualifies for Super Saver shipping. No such luck on the Wii or PlayStation 3 versions. Read More

Halo 3 Snatches Top Spot From CoD: World at War

Thank you Mythic Map Pack. With your efforts, Halo 3 managed to surpass Call of Duty: World at War for the week of March 2nd in terms of LIVE activity. Major Nelson released his typical top 10 lists of 360 activity, which you'll catch after the break. Street Fighter IV is in the pack, but I was surprised exactly how low it placed. Jump the break city... Read More

New Xbox Experience is the Biggest Thing Since Color TV, Apparently

After months of waiting and anticipation/dread, the New Xbox Experience is almost upon us. As such, Microsoft has seen fit to issue a press release to help usher in the dawning of a new age. What they don't seem to cover is for just how long we have to keep calling it the "New" Xbox Experience. Kind of reminds me of that one station they used to have around here, "the New VR." I don't think it's around any more, at least not in that form. Look at the signs, Microsoft! Don't let this happen to you! Anyway, here's what they have to say:LONDON - Nov. 18, 2008 — In 1954, the introduction of colour TV heralded the dawn of a new era in entertainment. On Nov. 19, more than 50 years after that dramatic shift, a new era in home entertainment begins...Oh, give me a break. Hit the jump for the rest. I won't interrupt again, promise. Unless you want me to; then I'll see what I can work out later. Read More

A Kingdom for Keflings Interview Reveals Game Details

A Kingdom for Keflings. Sure, this info hit the web a few days back, our little eyes may have scanned over it. But hey, at least now we're giving the title a little attention. I just hope the giants don't come to make us pay. Okay, so, we just told you about this title in the form of a trailer. A Kingdom for Keflings looks to be an imaginative and inspired title for Xbox Live. NinjaBee, of course, is responsible for titles like Cloning Clyde and Outpost Kaloki X. Well, IGN.com scored an interview with Steve Taylor, President of NinjaBee, that explores the details of the game a little further. Here are some highlights... "The objective is to build a Kingdom for the Keflings that live in a little valley. Officially, you "win" the game when you build a castle! There's actually a bit more you can do after the castle in terms of customizing your kingdom, but that's the official goal (and, naturally, it earns you the big Achievement)..." "There are more than 75 unique components and more than 50 different buildings to be built from those components." "The game is somewhat sandbox-like in design. There are no distinct levels, just a growing changing world like you'd find in other city builders. There is a tech tree to explore, but there's plenty of room for taking a custom path and making a lot of personal decisions on how and when and where to build what. Different decisions affect the general flow of the kingdom in different ways, so it's fun to play the game again and do things differently. There are also quests that players can follow to earn more points and get upgrades, or they can be completely ignored." "Up to four players can build an entire kingdom cooperatively over Xbox Live. Online play focuses on the same mechanics as single-player play, and adds a few unique elements." Truthfully, I'm most excited for that last bit. Online, giant coop seems incredible.
